Dana Swanson Patel has worked professionally as a visual artist for fifteen years.
She has completed studies in fiber and textile arts, clay and ceramics, metal smithing,
jewelry design and fabrication, enameling and lampworking.
After completing her undergraduate degrees in 1989, she began teaching art to both
children and adults privately and in public school systems across the country. Prior to
her moving to the desert, she was the Director of Education for the Olmsted County
Historical Society in Rochester, Minnesota. There she developed and implemented
programs for both children and adults linking history and art. In addition to her in-
novative art programs, she developed and implemented grant funded children's
programs focusing on diversity, community services, historical artifact preservation and art.
Dana also developed and taught two day seminar-retreats for teachers and staff of the
Montessori Schools, sat on the curriculum committee for the Rochester Public Schools and
served on the board of directors for the Girl Scouts of America.
Dana's artwork has been recognized and received awards on local, state and regional levels.
She works in the following media; clay, fiber art, metal smithing, jewelry design, wax and
paraffin art, glass lampworking, enameling, watercolors and acrylics.
Dana is a graduate of the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco and holds both
Certified Graduate Jeweler and Certified Jewelry Technician Diplomas. She is also a
certified PMC (precious metal clay) instructor, and is certified in Enameling on PMC.
